Espalmador is a small island located north of Formentera which together with Ibiza and some small islets form the archipelago of the Pitiusas islands, which in turn belong to the Balearic Islands.
The island is part since 1980 of the Natural Park of Salinas de Ibiza and Formentera.
It is almost 3000 meters long and 800 meters wide (137 hectares).
Formentera is a magical island with much to discover.
In Rent a Car San Fernando we offer you the service of car and motorcycle rental in Formentera so you can visit every corner of the island.
Formentera is a perfect place to visit in any month of the year, so do not miss the opportunity to discover everything it has to offer.
What can we visit in Espalmador Island?
This island has a villa on the coast and the caretaker's residence, both privately owned like the rest of the island's surface, plus a small chapel.
We can also see a defense tower of the eighteenth century as there are also in Formentera up the coast cliff in the northernmost part of the island as we pass by when we head to Ibiza.
Although the island has a mostly cliffy and rocky coastline, we can also find three small beaches: es Racó de S'Alga, Cala Bosch and Sa Torreta (in front of which is the small island of Sa Torreta) with white sands and transparent waters so it is very popular with visitors.
The coastline (about six meters wide from the tide line) is public maritime domain so there is no problem to go to enjoy these beautiful beaches, in fact in summer time there is a small boat that makes two or three trips a day as a regular line if the weather permits.
Also some small yachts are allowed to anchor in front of these beaches, but you have to be cautious and anchor only where it is allowed so as not to spoil our seabed and help the regeneration of our much needed posidonia. What activities can I do on Espalmador Island?
Espalmador is a beautiful island, with white sandy beaches and turquoise waters.
There are plenty of fun activities to do, from snorkeling and windsurfing to scuba diving and hiking.
And if you feel like just relaxing, there are also plenty of quiet spots where you can enjoy the scenery.
Hiking is allowed as the internal paths are public and property of the Consell Insular de Formentera with which it forms a municipality.
In the interior we can also find a small muddy lagoon that used to be used to take mud baths, but nowadays it is forbidden and can be punished with a fine of 1000€.
The bravest dare to reach the island on foot from Formentera as the Paso des Trocadors only separates it about 200 meters, but it must be at low tide (even so it covers between one and a half meters of water) and a day with little swell as the currents characteristic of this area are usually quite strong.
If the idea is to arrive from the beach of Illetas, Rent a Car San Fernando offers our range of bicycles and scooters to help our customers enjoy a completely different and fun day to spend your vacation.
Do not miss this opportunity to visit a wonderful place.
If you have any questions, our team will be happy to help and advise you to choose the best option.
