First we will explain the traditions and the way of life of our grandparents and great-grandparents (already for many of us), for them although they were customs and traditions it was also a necessity of sustenance since here they lived almost completely isolated until the 60's or 70's when the first tourists began to arrive. Also the first boats of merchandise or passengers since until then only the small "llauts" used by the fishermen were known. The main livelihood was agriculture, each family (which at that time were very large, parents, 7 or 8 children or even more, grandparents and uncles often living all together in a country house of no more than 3 rooms), cultivated their own fields with rudimentary tools, sometimes helped by a mule to plow them. The whole family helped as much as they could, and from a very young age each one did what they could, but they had to take care of older or younger siblings or household chores. According to the season and following the instructions and knowledge of the older ones, the crops were cultivated, dug, some of the most delicate products of the garden were watered (if there was a cistern or well) and finally they were harvested when the time came and stored or marinated in some way so that it would last as long as possible. Much of the food that could not be stored was eaten at the time or given to the animals. In every house there were at least chickens, pigeons, a pig, sheep and goats and a mule to help plow and transport goods in a cart. Everything was very valuable because with so many mouths that there were per family you had to stretch the food very well, there were no supermarkets as now everything was practically homemade. Like the bread, every 10 or 15 days, wheat grain was ground, it was pasta and bread was made, "bescuit" and "cocas" with sofrito (bell pepper, onion, garlic and tomato; and fish if they had it, which was not always), in a "pagés" oven that was heated with dry branches and that is why the forests were much more cared for and cleaner than today. They also cut logs and kept logs to light the fire all year round for both cooking and heating. In winter it was tradition to sit all around the fireplace to tell stories and anecdotes that was how things were transmitted, people did not go to school and did not know how to read or write.
