A bit of history: since ancient times salt has been key for human beings, so much so that many populations settled near the salt deposits to control their trade. The salt mine was the only industry on the island prior to the tourism boom. Although its exploitation ceased in 1984, the park is an example of the richness of Mediterranean biodiversity. Bird lovers will find here more than two hundred species, with flamingos as the main attraction. They are divided into two lagoons, the larger, s'Estany Pudent, is 3.5 km2.
